I had read about UFO's since I could first learn to read. In the 1970's I used to watch Leonard Nimoy's In Search Of... and other shows that discussed the phenomena. I remember reading about the flying cigars in "Strangely Enough!", a children's book.
In the early 1990's I read Timothy Good's Above Top Secret: The Worldwide U.F.O Cover-Up and it blew my mind. I read a lot about paranormal phenomena when I was young, but ignored it during my adult life thinking we would never have much evidence to support it. Heck, I was so naive in my early 20's that I didn't think that government conspiracies existed. I thought it was a fantastical idea.
After that book, I knew they were real. I later read Whitley Streiber's Communion and was blown away. My subconscious knew that he was hitting on some kind of real archetype, that alien presence is here, with us, and has been for a long time. We are repressing the idea as a society, like some kind of global post-traumatic amnesia.
The door to a new reality was now open.
Then, one day in May, 1995, I was driving to work on Westbound Interstate 40 just past the new Mormon temple, and saw a silver, horizontal, cigar-shaped object a few hundred feet over the ground on the right side of the highway. It was a clear blue sunny day. At first I thought it was a Mylar balloon of some sort that someone was flying, as I could tell it was low off the ground and not a plane, since the angle changed quickly as I drove up to it. It was perfectly shiny, silvery, with no imperfections in the skin of the object. The light of the sun was reflecting off of it. But it was not like seeing a plane fuselage from the side--it was much closer to me, and very, very silver.
As I drove up to it, it began to get thinner and thinner and brighter and eventually it was a thin horizontal strip and it disappeared. There was only blue sky left.
On another day, driving to lunch, I was on a side road and saw the same object in approximately the same area of sky, close to the temple. It was farther away from me and I could see it through the trees as I drove, so it was not some kind of aberration on the windshield. Again, it got brighter and disappeared.
Other people have seen this type of object before, as reported in National UFO Reporting Center.
In mathematics, if you intersect a 3D cone with a 2D plane, you get a 2D ellipse. Similarly, if you were to intersect a 4D hypercone with 3D space, you would get a 3D ellipsoid, like what I saw.
Perhaps something like a 4D hypercone had bumped into our 3D space.
